Iran's culture is very ‍different and unique in a way‍. For example, their religion. The reason ‍i ‍point this out is because it is very interesting to know and understand another person’s way of living. ‍Increasing the chances to go out and find new things while understanding the meanings. So i found out that the women in iran are forced to wear veils on their heads.
Most Iranians are Muslims. Around 98% belong to Shi'a branch of Islam, the official state religion, and about 9% belong to the Sunni branch of Islam. The remaining 2% are non-Muslim religious minorities, including Bahá'ís, Mandeans, Hindus, Yarsanis, Zoroastrians, Jews, and Christians. Zoroastrianism was once the majority religion, though today Zoroastrians number only in the tens of thousands. Now relating this to Persepolis, Marji is the perfect example as to her being forced to wear the veil when she was 8. Marji and her family were not used to wearing the veil. Infact, her and her family dressed as us americans would consider "normal". Marji was very confused and did not want to wear the veil, yet again, she had no other choice. I was seen in a movie called Rick Steves' Iran. In this movie i noticed how Rick Steves' was interviewing a couple of women with the veil on. Once he started to record a woman hurried to correct the veil on her head. This is because there is a correct way to wear the veil and by her wearing it incorrectly it shows that she did not believe in the religon. When the interview was over Rick Steves', an american, thanked the ladies and offered a handshake. Typical way to say goodbye you would think. But the ladies refused. One stated that a male is allowed to touch and shake another males hand but is not allowed to shake the hand of a women. This is because of the religion also.
